We asked our Team Members to share their recommendations on how to find success, whether in the hospitality industry or a different field. Read below for an inside look from Hilton Team Members on tips for success!

1. Think About Where you Would Thrive

“It’s important to understand who you are, and what is important to you, what your principles and beliefs are and in which part of the business they slot in.” –Kathryn, Director of Youth Strategy for EMEA

Being a professional means knowing your habits, strengths and weaknesses. Taking time to critically analyze your work style, goals and passions will help highlight areas for improvement, daily patterns, and underlying desires. Knowing yourself will bring you more confidence and encourage you to step up and utilize new opportunities with a level of capability that may have seemed impossible beforehand.

2. Don’t Limit Yourself

“Be a team member that purposefully connects with people and dares to dream.” – Alice, Director of Rooms at Hilton Shijiazhuang

Limitations only hinder your path to success. Understanding that challenges are only detours and not roadblocks will enforce resilience. Thinking outside of the box to solve problems is a skill that all adults must develop so when approached with a limitation, don’t let it stop you from the pursuit of your goals.

3. Be Open, but Analytical

“There are so many opportunities that you can get lost in them all, so you need to figure out what makes you tick. Then you just need to decide which path suits you.” –Virginia, VP of Customer Journey Delivery

Opportunities come in every shape and size. Although each chance can be a positive one, thinking strategically to incorporate certain opportunities into your life will leave you with a manageable set of tasks and room for growth. Being a “yes woman/man” can quickly turn into a stressful mindset when not being smart about your decisions and commitments.

4. Follow your Passions

“I joined Hilton because I really loved looking at people’s smiles. Working at a hotel means you have the opportunity to be part of or create the guest’s best moments of their life and I thought that would be very exciting to do that as a job.” – Karen, Regional Japanese Elevator trainee at Hilton Okinawa Chatan resort

Take a step back and think about what makes you happy. Although simplistic, taking these small moments of joy and translating them into professional tasks and opportunities can lead you to a career that keeps you content. At the end of the day, you want to do something that motivates and inspires you.

5. Develop Positive Relationships

“You need to have empathy for the people you work with, create amazing working relationships with your team members and have empathy for the customer. Think about what they want, deliver it exceptionally and you will be successful.” – Vanessa, Senior Director of HR Digital Strategy and Implementation

Be the employee that has a positive attitude, treats everyone with respect and brings joy to the workplace. Creating quality connections and caring for people will help contribute to a positive workplace environment and build relationships that can extend past the job you currently have. People are more willing to help you, listen to you and work with you when you’ve treated them well.
